Revised Education due to COVID-19 April 28th
Based upon information provided by our District Referee Coordinator, at a recent meet held by the Executive Committee of the Scarborough Soccer Association, the District Leagues operating in Scarborough (CSL,TDYL and Durham) propose to go into operation soon after the June 30th deadline given by the Province of Ontario, (first week of July) Please also note that this proposal is subject to change based on any new directives from the Province of Ontario. As it is imperative that referees in Scarborough be aware of the 2019/2020 Law changes which will be implemented this year, we will resume our education sessions on Tuesday April 28th by using Zoom for our online sessions. The initial response to the online session proposal has been very positive from our branch. If you plan on attending but have not as yet responded to this email, please respond by just clicking reply, as we would like to have an idea of the number of referees planning to attend. If you have already responded please accept our thanks. There is no need to respond again as your response has been noted. Sports officiating (Soccer Referees) is an honorable profession requiring those who engage in it to have strong moral character and integrity. Officials must be fair-minded and courageous. They are expected to embrace and adhere to the Code of Conduct handed down by Ontario Soccer. It takes a special person to be an official. Sport officials (soccer referees) bear great responsibility for engendering public confidence in sports. They are critical to the health of athletic competitions. Officials ensure games are played fairly, by the laws of the game, within the spirit of the laws in a safe manner. Officiating takes a great deal of preparation, commitment, continuing education and fitness We would all agree that soccer is growing very fast both in numbers and in the quality of play. As more clubs develop more elite teams, the need for Referees experienced in managing higher-level matches is also growing exponentially. All referees are encouraged to attend and participate in both education and fitness sessions. Referees should be fit to referee rather than refereeing to be fit.
Due to the fire at The Agincourt Community Centre on January 31st, the new location for our education programs on Tuesday nights will now be held at: McGregor Park Community Centre, 2231 Lawrence East, Scarborough, M1P 2P5. Phone # 416 396 4023
